A crypto profit calculator shows how much you gained or lost on a coin trade by taking your investment, buy price, sell price, and exchange fees, then subtracting estimated capital gains tax. This version also reports your break-even price and how much each 2x, 5x, or 10x move would be worth.

How the Crypto Profit Calculator Works

① Coins acquired

Coins = (Invested − Invested × Buy Fee%) ÷ Buy Price

The buy fee is taken out before any coins are purchased.

② Proceeds and pre-tax profit

Proceeds = Coins × Sell Price × (1 − Sell Fee%); Profit = Proceeds − Invested

③ After-tax profit

Net = Profit − max(0, Profit) × Tax Rate

Tax rate is the short-term (ordinary income) or long-term rate, depending on holding period.

④ Break-even sell price

Break-even = Invested ÷ (Coins × (1 − Sell Fee%))

Worked Example — $5,000 into Bitcoin at $40,000, sold at $65,000, 0.6% fees, held over a year

  • Buy fee: $30; coins acquired = $4,970 ÷ $40,000 = 0.12425 BTC
  • Gross sale: 0.12425 × $65,000 = $8,076.25; sell fee $48.46 → proceeds $8,027.79
  • Pre-tax profit: $3,027.79
  • Long-term tax at 15%: $454.17 → after-tax profit $2,573.63 (51.5% ROI)
  • Break-even sell price: ≈ $40,484

💡 Pro-Tip

Plan the exit, not just the entry. Gains held past the one-year mark are usually taxed at a much lower rate. In the example above, selling after 11 months at the 32% bracket would have cost about $969 in tax instead of $454. Before selling a winner, check your holding date. Waiting a few weeks can be worth more than a few percent of price movement.

Crypto Profit Calculator FAQ

How do you calculate crypto profit?

Coins bought = (amount invested − buy fee) ÷ buy price. Proceeds = coins × sell price − sell fee. Profit = proceeds − amount invested. Subtract capital gains tax to get after-tax profit.

What is my break-even price on a crypto trade?

Break-even is the sell price at which proceeds after both fees equal what you invested. With a $40,000 buy and 0.6% fees on each side, break-even is about $40,484, slightly above your entry.

How is crypto profit taxed in the U.S.?

The IRS treats crypto as property. Selling at a gain after holding one year or less is taxed as ordinary income (10%–37%); holding longer than one year qualifies for long-term rates of 0%, 15%, or 20%. Rates here are estimates, not tax advice.

Do exchange fees really matter?

Yes. A 0.6% fee on both buying and selling costs roughly 1.2% of your stake before any price movement, and it compounds if you trade often.
