Discount & Sale Price Calculator

Sale price · Amount saved · Stacked coupons · Reverse-solve for % off

This discount calculator finds the sale price and dollar amount saved from any percent-off deal, lets you stack a second coupon on top (correctly — stacked discounts multiply, not add), adds sales tax, and can also work backward to tell you the exact discount percentage between two known prices.

How the Sale Price Is Calculated

A percentage discount reduces price by a fraction of itself. Stacked discounts apply sequentially — each one to the already-discounted price, not the original — which is why two discounts never simply add together.

Sale Price = P × (1 − d₁) × (1 − d₂)
VariableDefinition
POriginal price before any discount
d₁First discount, as a decimal (25% = 0.25)
d₂Second/extra stacked discount, applied after the first

Example: a $100 item at 25% off, plus an extra 10% off at checkout: $100 × 0.75 × 0.90 = $67.50. Total combined discount is 32.5% — not the 35% you'd get by simply adding 25% + 10%.

⚠️ Expert Pro-Tip

"40% off" almost never means what it sounds like when discounts stack. Retailers advertise headline numbers like "up to 40% off" that combine a storewide markdown with a coupon code — but because the discounts multiply rather than add, the real number is usually 3–5 percentage points lower than the sum implies. Always plug both discounts into the stacked-discount field above before deciding whether a deal genuinely beats a competitor's flat price.
